The western community in Qingdao is still quite small therefore services for expats are quite limited. You might find that some places do not have staff that speak English very well and it would be advisable for you to learn a few Chinese words to be able to communicate what you need to.

However, we are glad to find that there are some expats who have opened up businesses here in order to provide services to the western community so things do not get lost in translation and people get the standard of service that meets their needs. As Qingdao is building itself into a more international city with the 2008 Olympic games on the way, we hope that more and more services pop up to cater to the expat community in order to make life more comfortable in the future.
